Litany of Sorrows Reviews:

Heartbreaking and emotionally shocking at times - I found myself drawn into fast-paced human frailty, mistakes, atrocities, and redemption - D. Stemmler, M.S. Language Arts and Creative Writing

This (book) could be used in History classes - to help students comprehend how war impacts individuals at a personal level. I highly recommend this to all. - Assistant Professor, William McGrath, Ph.D., LaSalle University

Marzano’s ability to create memorable characters is a huge strength. - He is an excellent storyteller and captures the openness and danger of the southern German farmland, the Italian countryside. His technical details about the manufacturing and mechanics of this well-researched novel give him great credibility as a writer. The exciting story comes to life in his excellent descriptions. - G. McLaughlin, Author, B.A. English and Creative Writing

I couldn’t put it down, and when I did, I kept thinking about the characters throughout the day. - Susan Ciani, M.A. Reading Education

This compelling story gives readers a reason to keep turning the pages! - I highly recommend this book! - N. Robitzski, M.S. History

Litany of Sorrows is much more than I first expected - The historical background is excellent for students like myself . . . it helped me understand WWII and the context of the story. - M. Michna, high school Honors student

If you are looking for a great read, pick up Litany of Sorrows. My old high school friend, Pete Marzano, wrote a novel called Litany of Sorrows. It’s about a relationship between two young people, Karl and Katrina, who meet on a ski slope just as WW II starts. The guy winds up joining Hitler’s SS and buys into Adolph’s philosophy. I’m not much for novels. But let me tell you...this book was fantastic! Once I got into the story, I couldn’t put it down. Great characters, a great story with lots of twists and turns, and an unforgettable ending! This book would make a great movie! You’ll love it. - Al O’Leary, retired

Great Story Telling - This historical fiction has been researched so thoroughly that you immediately get immersed in the characters and effects of a brutal war. The book becomes a page-turner that keeps you wanting to discover what happens next. I know I’ve read a good book when I am hoping for one more chapter at the end. - W. R., retired

Fabulous Historical Fiction - Just when you think you can see what’s coming next, the storyline surprises! Marzano’s story is replete with critical and well-researched important historical references throughout - which adds to the context of Katrina’s brief, tragic, misguided pre-WWII love affair with Karl von Richter. I found myself searching online for many places in Germany and Italy where the story takes the reader. Whether you are a WWII buff or simply enjoy a book you may have trouble putting down, grab a copy - you will not be disappointed. - Curt H.

Captivating / Well Written / Suspenseful - Marzano’s writing style greatly appealed to me. I loved the historical information put in the context of a suspenseful story. I looked forward to returning to it each time I needed to put it down and find out what happened next. - T. Ott

An Incredible Story - A love story corrupted by the extreme nationalism of WWII Germany. It is a story woven together by a first-time author who nails it in his first novel! Loved it! - Music Man

Insight into pre-WWII German Thinking - I think the author of Litany of Sorrows did an excellent job of showing how it came to be that the German populace bought into their country’s remilitarization and WWII. The characters and their stories are authentic. The historical background, as well as the progress of the war, are also easy to follow from the perspective of individual people. This book can also be viewed as less from the past for Americans today. Should we, especially the children of Emma Lazarus, be tolerating any form of hate or discrimination? - Pat from MD

The story is both fascinating and frightening as we see the characters’ decisions lead to disappointment, sorrow, death, and long-term sadness.” - K. Coyle, M.S. Guidance and Counseling

I couldn’t put it down - From page 140, when SS Officer Karl von Richter sets out on an ill-fated attempt to spirit Adolf Hitler out of Germany, until the end of the story, I couldn’t put the book down. Marzano’s characters and plots are compelling. His attention to historical background and detail and making it all accessible to his readers is extraordinary. This is his first book, and I look forward to more. - Linnea Dayton, Author, and Editor - San Diego
